Blackwork is black ink only — no colour, no grey wash — used for everything from bold graphic shapes to impossibly fine ornamental lacework. It is precise, graphic and endlessly versatile, covering ornamental, illustrative, tribal and pattern-based work.
Designing a half sleeve
A half sleeve covers shoulder to elbow, giving a self-contained canvas with a natural border at the elbow. It centres the design on the most visible part of the arm and is an easy starting point that can later extend to a full sleeve.
Pain
Outer shoulder and upper arm are comfortable; the inner arm is more sensitive.
