The Story
Flame aureoles come from Buddhist iconography: Fudō Myō-ō stands in a mandorla of fire that burns away delusion. In irezumi, flames lick upward in curling tendrils, often carried by dragons and guardian figures — and by tradition fire and water backgrounds stay on separate panels.
