Fūjin
Wind, freedom, change. Fujin carries the winds in a great bag slung over his shoulders. Traditionally paired with Raijin.
An ancient deity present from the creation of the world — when Fujin first opened his bag, the winds cleared the morning mists between heaven and earth. Together with Raijin, they represent the dual forces of nature.
The wind god carries his enormous wind bag across the shoulders, green or blue-skinned, robes and hair streaming in the gale he creates. The wind bag's bulging curve and the horizontal streaming of everything around him define the composition. Colour treatments contrast his skin against a red or gold bag; black-and-grey versions render wind as long parallel whip-shaded streaks. Like Raijin, he lives or dies on motion — and on the mischievous, almost grinning ferocity of the face.
Fujin mirrors Raijin: the pair split across both sides of the upper body is the canonical arrangement, wind answering thunder. Alone, Fujin suits placements with horizontal sweep — across the upper back, or wrapping a shoulder with the wind bag over the trapezius and the body trailing down the arm. His wind lines are a gift to bodysuit composition, blowing naturally into wind bars that can carry across the chest or back to link neighbouring motifs.
Direction: Floating or leaping through clouds, holding the great wind bag stretched between his hands.
