Heaven, the divine realm, and transition. Clouds mark the space where dragons and deities move, and their swirls give a composition breath — the pause between subjects.
The Story
Cloud forms in irezumi come from Buddhist painting and woodblock prints, where deities arrive on formal cloud banks. Tattoo clouds are drawn as rounded, layered spirals with dark shaded bellies — solid enough to frame a subject, soft enough to recede behind it.
